Every year, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics hosts FNCE, the Food & Nutrition Conference and Expo. This year it was in Nashville, and we were there to soak in the music, southern charm, and the latest food trends and nutrition news. From vegetarian sources of protein (i.e. pasta made with beans!) to probiotics to sprouted grains and seeds, the themes of this year's conference were simple, wholesome, and plant based. Trends tracker and the voice behind the blog, Nutrition Unplugged, Janet Helm, MS, RD, joins us on the show to discuss the latest food news and to chat about some of the lectures we attended. David Katz, MD shed light on the world's "best" diet and celebrity chef, Marcus Samuellson talked about eating with a spiritual compass. Tune in to this week's show for so much more.

Got picky eaters? Your mealtime woes are about to end thanks to an oh-so-cool kitchen gadget: the spiralizer. Getting kids excited about eating their vegetables can be easy, especially when you turn carrots, zucchini, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, and even beets into noodles! With the spiralizer, everyday vegetables get turned into adorable, impossible-to-resist curly noodles. On this week's show, we dig into the spiralizer craze, chat about the equipment you'll need to turn veggies into noodles, and share two new recipes: Cucumber and Carrot "Noodle" Salad and Zoodle and Carrot Lo Mein. While many spiralizer recipes are gluten-free, vegan, and paleo, we're more excited about the craze because it makes veggies just so darn fun to eat. If you'd like to purchase our favorite spiralizer, check out the Paderno World Cuisine Tri-Blade Spiralizer.
