Cooking with the Moms
This may sound counter intuitive, but studies show that kids tend to gain weight faster during the lazy days of summer than they do during the school year. The lack of structure kids experience when school lets out can lead to excessive nibbling and noshing throughout the day. To share her best tips for smart summer snacking for kids and their parents, friend and fellow dietitian, Ellie Krieger, joins us on this week's show. She also serves up one of her newest recipes for Frozen Grape and Banana Skewers with Chocolate Drizzle. Tune in for Ellie’s in-the-trenches advice (she's the mom of a nine-year old) and for info on how you can win a copy of her recent cookbook, Comfort Food Fix.

She also serves up a recipe for Whole Grain Raspberry Breakfast Bars, and we hear about the nutritional benefits of berries from Tina Ruggiero, MS, RD, a consultant for Driscoll's.

No one ever said feeding kids would be easy. Just when you nail one mealtime dilemma, say getting kids well fed and out the door on time in the morning, more dilemmas pop up: making school lunches that won't get tossed or returned, finding a kid-pleasing main dish that's not a burger or hot dog, and serving healthy snacks that don't come in a crinkly bag. You get the drift. Right? Coming to the rescue with real-world solutions is Katie Workman, a mom of two and author of the fabulous new book, The Mom 100 Cookbook: 100 Recipes Every Mom Needs in Her Back Pocket. Katie joins us on the show this week to share her smartest solutions for all the cooking-for-kids dilemmas that parents face every day, tips for getting finicky eaters to try new foods, and favorite go-to ingredients for busy moms. She also serves up her recipe for Simple Fresh Mozzarella Pasta Casserole.
