This is the time of year when we get to let our hair down as we nibble our way through luscious and decadent holiday goodies. It's hard to turn them down, which is why we spend a lot of our time dreaming up clever ways to slim down and health-ify all of those traditional treats. On this week's show, we serve up healthier holiday secrets and add a new twist to holiday classics with two better-for-you dessert recipes: Almond-Apricot Snowballs and Mini Peppermint Cupcakes. Both are made with canola oil instead of butter, so they are a lot lower in saturated fat than their butter-laden counterparts. And since they are mini, the calories are a lot lower too!

Janice and Don just returned from a one-week trip to Denmark where they visited their daughter, Carolyn, who is spending a college semester abroad. On this week's show, Janice shares her adventures eating and cycling (well, sort of!) her way through the oh-so-trendy city of Copenhagen. Find out if she ate Danish for breakfast, why restaurants serve up woolen blankets at dinner, and hear about the healthy lifestyle (minus the cigarette smoking) that many Danes lead. Also, hear from Kiersten Brochner, owner of the "green" Kong Arthur Hotel and from Carolyn!

The damage from Hurricane Sandy takes our breath away. Many of our friends and followers are hurting as a result, and even though we can't personally be in touch with everyone, we're sending positive thoughts their way. As busy moms who always seem to be juggling something, we've been known to complain from time to time, but trust us when we say that you will never hear us complain again. Liz still has no power...but she's not complaining! On this week' show, we chat about the hurricane and how we prepared for it, offer another glimpse into Janice's kitchen renovation, and share a recipe for Pumpkin Gnocci. We hope you'll tune in.

Every autumn, farmers' markets and local farm stands display their finest seasonal vegetables: winter squash, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Over the weekend, dietitians from across the web had a chance to show off their best "orange" recipes as part of the monthly Recipe Redux blogger cooking challenge, and over 60 dietitians did just that. We joined the fun with a recipe for Orange Cauliflower Tex Mex Casserole. One dish that caught our eye (and our stomachs) came from Food Confidence, a blog written by fellow dietitian, Danielle Omar. So on this week's show, we serve up Danielle's hearty autumn Roasted Butternut Squash with Lentils and Walnuts recipe and offer umpteen reasons why it's a good idea to add nutrient-rich, orange foods to your family's diet. We hope you'll tune in...and we hope you'll eat more orange!

We had so many things to talk about this week on the show that we decided to combine a bunch of topics and create a show all about hodgepodge! First up, we give an update on Janice's extreme kitchen makeover. Wait till you see the YouTube video of her living quarters! Yikes. We then launch into Liz's new love affair with the Ninja Cooking System, and we serve up a Ninja-licious recipe for Hearty Skillet Lasagna made with baby spinach. We announce our latest giveaway for a Ninja ($360.00 value) and dish about our recent trip to the White House vegetable garden and our support of the Let's Move campaign to reverse childhood obesity. It's a wild ride, so we hope you'll tune in.

Back in the late 1980's, a scientific study found that eating oat bran lowered blood cholesterol levels. What followed was a nationwide oat bran craze, and new food products hit the market including silly things like potato chips and even beer made with oat bran. Fast forward to 2012, and oats are still hot stuff! From conversations with our Facebook fans, it's clear consumers are still in love with oats and oatmeal, so we decided to devote this week's show to them. For expert advice on all things oats--their nutritional value, how to cook with them, what to top them with--we turned to fellow dietitian, oatmeal aficionado, and mom-to-be, Kath from the blog, Kath Eats Real Food. We also have two oatmeal recipes: Overnight Oatmeal and Whipped Banana Oatmeal.
