Cooking with the Moms
Last week we ventured to Atlanta, GA for the city's annual Taste of Atlanta event. At the festival, we cooked up one of our favorite family-friendly recipes for Quick Apple Sausage Quesadillas, and we had a chance to sample some of Atlanta's finest cuisine. We also took some time to visit area restaurant including Miller Union. Liz isn't sure what got into her but she couldn't resist the Braised Rabbit with Radishes and Creamed Turnips while Janice enjoyed the NY Strip with Creamy Polenta and Brussels Sprouts. Yes folks, there's a whole lot more to the South than grits and chicken fried steak!

We celebrate Halloween on this week's Cooking with the Moms with a tribute to the almighty pumpkin. A member of the Cucurbita family (which also includes squash and cucumber), pumpkin is off the charts when it comes to versatility and nutrition: It's packed with immune-boosting vitamin A as well as fiber and nutrients like potassium. We shared some fabulous recipes on the show including a makeover for Trader Joe's Truffle Brownies, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Granola Bars, Pumpkin Custard, Pumpkin Cupcakes with Maple Frosting, and a bunch more.

There has been a lot of talk these days about school lunch reform, and on this week's podcast, we joined the conversation...in a big way. No, Jamie Oliver, host of the hit TV series, Food Revolution was not on the show. And no, First Lady Michelle Obama who launched Let's Move, did not join us. Our star guest was Chef Ann Cooper, author of Lunch Lessons and known to millions nationwide as The Renegade Lunch Lady. Ann is the director of Nutrition Services of the Boulder Valley School District and Founder of the Food Family Farming Foundation. The two main projects of the foundation are The Lunch Box and the Great American Salad Bar Project. Tune in for Ann's advice on reforming your school lunch program.
