Now that the weather is warm and backyard grills are back in action, we figured now is as good a time as any to talk about the dos and don'ts of food safety. In this week's show, we dispel the myth that mayonnaise is a key food spoilage culprit, share a recipe for Red, White & Blue Potato Salad, and give a pop food safety quiz to our listeners! Did you know that as a rule of thumb, leftover foods should not stay out of refrigeration for more than two hours while in hot weather (80 degrees F or warmer), the time is reduced to just one hour? On today's show, we serve up the latest news on foods that lower cholesterol. Some of the power foods we dish about are oatmeal, walnuts and other nuts, fatty fish such as salmon, olive oil, beans, and spreads fortified with plant sterols and stanols. Our two cholesterol-lowering recipes are Oatmeal Power Breakfast topped with pure maple syrup, blueberries, and chopped nuts and Shrimp & Black Bean Tacos -- contrary to popular belief, eating shrimp won't raise your cholesterol ... in fact, it can have the opposite affect.

When we think about Easter and Passover, fond food memories come to mind. At Easter, Janice dreams of her neighbor's lamb cake. That's right! This delectable cake is shaped like a lamb and decorated with white frosting and shredded coconut. For Liz, Passover conjures up memories of matzoh and her mom’s pot roast. For the holidays, we created two new recipes: Nutty Noodle Kugel and Minty Lamb Burgers with Walnuts & Feta.
